AutoSock for passenger cars will be a legal alternative to snow chains in all EU member states by latest December 1st, 2020. The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) published the new European Standard EN16662-1:2020 for supplementary grip devices on May 27th, 2020. AutoSock has been a member of the according CEN work group from the very beginning. Today, after 10 years of dedicated work on this standard, we are proud to announce that AutoSock is the first product worldwide certified according to EN16662-1:2020.

All EU member states must now publish an according national standard until November 30th, 2020 and at the same time remove any conflicting old standards. EU countries that have already implemented EN16662-1:2020 into their national standard scheme include Germany, Austria, UK, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Croatia and Ireland.

The new standard describes minimum requirements for operational safety, performance and durability of winter traction devices - regardless of the material such traction devices are made of. This means textile traction devices, rubber and metal snow chains will from now on be certified according to the same standard and must meet the same minimum requirements. Find here the brief news from CEN regarding the new standard.
