Decree published: AutoSock officially equated to Snow Chains in Italy

Already in October 2022, the Italian Ministry of Sustainable Infrastructures and Mobility (MIMS) accepts the usage of snow socks as an alternative to snow chains. Now, the long-awaited ministerial decree has been released and leaves no questions open. The Decree of February 23, 2023 published by MIMS in the Official Gazette the following March 16, replaces the previous decree from 2011. The new decree recognizes the UNI EN16662-1 standard and officially approves the use of snow socks in Italy as an alternative to snow chains.

The discussion about the homologation of snow socks in Italy finally comes to an end. After engaging actively for more than ten years with Italian authorities, AutoSock is satisfied to see the new decree being in place. Whenever obligations for winter equipment are in place for driving on Italian roads, AutoSock can be legally used instead of metallic snow chains without risking any fine.
